Recruitment Agencies in Ireland – No reponse to CV applications

Have you been using recruitments agencies in Ireland?

Are you frustrated by the lack of returned emails or calls?

The below article from the Irish Independent identifies why this could be the case. Read what leading Online Recruitment & SEO expert Ivan has to say about the Recruitment Sector in Ireland ….

OVER a third of recruiters have lost their own jobs, due to the record hike in unemployment.

The industry dedicated to matching vacancies with workers has itself been decimated over the last 12 months with a total of 4,500 jobs lost in what was once a 12,000-strong sector.

Many employment agencies have drastically reduced their staffing levels as the numbers signing on soared by 97pc.

The group representing employment agencies, the National Recruitment Federation (NRF), saw just a handful of clients go to the wall but has recorded a massive drop in the number of employees.

NRF president Frank Collins, said he knew of one agency where staffing levels plummeted from 12 to just one person, and another where they fell from 28 to eight.

He said “green shoots’ were visible in some sectors of the economy, although employers were waiting to see if this would lead to a recovery.

Managing director of recruitment website employireland.ie, Ivan Stojanovic, said his business survived purely because it was not heavily dependent on placement adverts.

“Recruiters have been the hardest hit of any sector,” he said. “As time goes by, it’s getting worse and worse. I believe the figure of those who have lost their jobs in recruitment could be around two out of three.

If you are using recruitment agencies in this tough market you need to change your approach. What worked previously will not work now. Find out how to make your CV stand out for recruiters on this site.

Flexitimers – Free Irish Jobs Site

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

flexitimers_logoWhat to do with a CV? Upload it to the databases. The employment statistics show us that far more candidates are getting hired by uploading the CV to the online databases than just applying for the jobs on the jobs sites and sending it to the employers. Uploading your CV to the online CV databases assures you will be found when the recruiters will need you (not when you need a job – and send the m the CV out of a blue!). Sending a speculative CV to an Employer creates work on their end. Storing it in the CV database makes your CV available when they will have a need for it. So be there – be found.

There are classic Irish Jobs Sites you can upload your CV to or if you are looking for a project Work – there is an Irish site Flexitimers.

Get your CV in the right CV databases to be found when the employers will need new staff member with your skills. Be found when the right time comes!

Targeting a company with a speculative CV

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Many jobseekers are reactive when it comes to job hunting. When I say this I mean is that they rely on recruitment agencies or job board and sit back and wait for the interviews to roll in. Great if it is working (there are some great job boards in Ireland) but what if you are not experiencing positive results. You have a number of options;

1. Keep doing the same thing – BUT you will keep getting the same results!!
2. Try a different approach when dealing with agencies or search the job boards.
3. Try a proactive approach.

What is proactive job hunting?

There are a number of possible strategies available including speculative CV’s. Here are some tips if you are following this strategy.

Take a focused approach –target an industry sector or a geography region. Approaching this strategy in an ad hoc manner can prove fruitless.

Bypass HR – Sending a speculative CV to Human Resources can prove a waste of time. Although recruitment is managed by the department they may not be completely aware of what is happening in departments. For example the Finance Manager may know that an accountant has just handed in notice or that it has been agreed with the Directors to increase headcount and this information has not reached HR.

Focused cover letter – A generic cover letter will lose impact. Find out the name of the department manager and address it to him/her directly.

Follow Up – Follow up with the person you have sent the CV to. Prepare short sales pitch for the call.

Job search – target Irish Employers recruiting now!

Job Search Tip

As well as making sure the Irish recruitment agencies know about you, and have the fresh copy of your CV, there is also a number of the Irish Employers who do not use the recruitment agencies but hire directly. The majority of the employers in Ireland use the combination of all sources of applications for their positions. The internal referral is the method the most employers prefer, then the direct applications, and at then the recruitment agencies.

Therefore by targeting just recruitment agencies you are limiting yourself to only those recruiters who do utilise their services. Check your industry and see if the employers in your industry actually use recruitment agencies at all, or are they recruiting directly. If they are hiring themselves, sending your CV to the recruitment agencies will not get you a job you want. What you will need to do is to apply directly to those employers. Sending them your CV in the email format is the most convenient and effective for both you as a job hunter and for the employer.

Here is the list of the current companies hiring on Irish Jobs to help you with your Job Search:

Sending your CV to recruitment agencies in Ireland

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Sometimes it is not enough to send your CV to a recruitment agency and sit back and wait for the job offers to roll in. In my time as a recruitment consultant I saw many applicants try this approach with little success. It is essential that you make contact with the relevant agency.

You must try to meet the consultant or at least make verbal contact on the phone.

If you are sending CV’s to agencies I have outlined a comprehensive list of recruitment agencies below.

If you need help with your CV there are many articles on this site to help you create a CV that will make and impact generating key interviews.
